COMENIUS PROJECT-LEON MEETING

Presentation to the school

-          Should present the whole project to the school for the entire two years, so that we are aware of what we shall be doing – this years projects should be presented in detail

  • Should be done immediately

-          We need to have one reference point – the person responsible for the project

-          Make a mailing list of all the teachers envolved so that everybody recieves everything -- Mail the list to Isabel so that she can forward it on

-          Proposal: Take pupils from two classes; shall not necesarily be the same as next year

  • Numbers don´t matter – upto the individual school

-          One person responsible for each individual activitiy, yet for each activity there will only be one person responsible in each school

-          What kind of personal presentation should be prepared?

  • Power point presentation of the class (one presentation for each class)
  • One class photo with the names of the participants
    • Age, reason why they are taking part in the project, some information about the class/group
    • State what field they study in the sciences – how many hours are spent in science class
    • Include photos of the labs at the school
  • Presentations ready by the latest the 20th December (earlier if possible)
  • Each school should attach thier presentation to the school webpage, sending the links to each school participating in the programme so that they can all have a look (the webpages are on the forms)
  • Students should look at the webpages before 25th December to see who is participating in the programme

Scientists

-          Start in January

-          Focus on local OR national scientists – choose the scientists that represent the most of your country

  • Italy: Galileo
  • Poland: Copernicus, man who discovered breast cancer
  • Turkey/Spain: Hasn´t chosen yet

-          Once the scienists have been chosen (everyone follows the same steps)

  • Information can be found from the internet, school-books etc.

-          What kind of study?

  • Historical – to locate them and thier importance in history
  • Discoveries
  • Relevance to the contemporany age – What were thier contributions to science and our practical life? Has life changed thanks to their discoveries? How important were the discoveries?
  • Students do the research; collect the information and put it all together (each individual step)

-          Layout of presentation

  • Each school follows the same layout and presents the information using power point.  Follow these steps and use these titles and subtitles:

Name

His life – must be 2 pages (include pictures)

Where he/she worked and lived

His/her historical background

Important fact which influenced his/her life

His discoveries – 2 pages including pictures

(Information about which were his/her most important discoveries.  Describe them or at least the most important of them.)

His/her relevance today – 2 pages including pictures

Say why was he/she was revolutionary

What aspects of everyday life have been influced by his/her discoveries?

Interview with the scientist – maximun 3 minutes

One pupil plays the interviewer and one pupil plays the scientist (unless the scientist himself can be interviewed).  The background must include equipment/tools that the scientist used in his discoveries.  The clothes worn by the pupil (scienist) must resemble the period of the scientist.

-          Presentation must be completed by 18th April

-          Sunday 19th April 2009 – Friday 24th April 2009 (project meeting in Italy ‘ must bring the presentations to Italy)

  • It is essential to arrive on (or before) the Sunday so that work can start on Monday morning
  • 10 people in total – need to know the number of students/the number of teachers and the budget.

Put all these things on a CD and bring it to Italy.

Produce two brochures (one with each scientist) to give phisically to our authorities. They must be ready in April to bring them to Italy.

1st page. Must include a photo or a drawing, the title of the project, “Comenius Project”, the names of the 4 schools, and at the top the time 2008-2009

2nd page. It deals with the Biography of the scientist.

3rd page. It deals with the Discoveries

4th page. Relevance. How have his/her discoveries changed our lifes?

5thpage. Gallery with any images that makes reference to the scientist (formulas, books, places where they developed their work, statues dedicated to them,...)

6th page. Names all participants involved in the project ( local teachers and students) plus a photo of the whole group.

Bring these two brochures to Italy in April

25-11-2008

Comenius Meeting Continued:

Point Number Five: It is possible to do one laboratory experience. We will simply record this, because it is a great deal faster.

-When we come to Italy, we will watch it.

- Record one of the science professors doing an experiment in the laboratory.  The teacher or the students must explain the laboratory experiment in English.

-The type of experiment truly depends on the scientists that the school chooses.

-One of the main aims of this project is for the students to become aquainted with scientific method.

-In the schools where it is possible, these experiments will be carried out. These experiments will be shown at the meeting in Italy. The experiments should be explained very slowly-IN ENGLISH.

2. Project Meeting in Italy

BRING:

1.  Class and school Presentations

2.  Two Brochures of the scientists

3.  A C.D. with the experiments recorded

In Italy we shall watch the presentations and experiments and prepare a joint brochure between all the schools

-The last phase is the joint brochure:

1. School presentations

2. Participants presentations, which is always the same.

3. Information about the scientist without the interview (Include why they were chosen.)

-At the meeting the individual projects shall be compared and shared, so that a descision can be made about how to present them

-After the meeting one country will collect all the ideas. The information must then be printed and presented to the headmaster, local authority etc.

**Deadlines must be met!**

-The presentations should be up to five minutes long. The students and teachers can use a power-point presentation.
